Bourbon Steak Makes Triumphant Return to San Francisco

Nearly two decades after Chef Michael Mina first opened his eponymous Michelin-starred restaurant inside The Westin St. Francis, the celebrated chef returns to Union Square with a bold new vision.

The opening on October 10, marks a homecoming for Mina, whose career and company were both shaped in this very landmark. The reimagined Bourbon Steak captures everything that has made the brand beloved across the country — signature tableside presentations, impeccable service, and premium cuts — elevated through a California lens. Guests can expect dry-aged steaks brushed with bourbon butter, refined seafood dishes, and seasonal produce sourced from local purveyors, all served in an atmosphere that balances grandeur and warmth.

At the heart of the restaurant lies Bourbon Lounge, a striking bar that sets the tone for the evening with craft cocktails, live music, and an inviting social energy. From here, guests can also glimpse one of the city’s most anticipated new destinations: The Eighth Rule, a bourbon-driven bar from four-time NBA champion and entrepreneur Stephen Curry, developed in partnership with MINA Group.

Named for the seven official rules of bourbon production, The Eighth Rule invites guests to create their own “rule” for gathering. With only 40 seats and a curated selection of rare spirits — including Curry’s own Gentleman’s Cut bourbon — the space is designed as an intimate retreat celebrating connection and craftsmanship.

For Mina, this project is personal.

“As I have reimagined Bourbon Steak over the years, I believed that this historic landmark would be the perfect location, and I can’t wait for people to get a look at what we’ve created. I don’t say this lightly, but it is one of the most beautiful restaurants I’ve ever built.”

Together, Bourbon Steak San Francisco and The Eighth Rule signal a powerful new era for the city’s dining scene — one that blends culinary excellence, community, and a deep belief in what makes San Francisco extraordinary.
