The MINA Group proudly expands its San Francisco footprint with Pabu-Chan, a new 20-seat sake tasting room and event space located just steps from PABU Izakaya. Conceived by acclaimed chef and restaurateur Michael Mina, Pabu-Chan is an intimate extension of the beloved Japanese izakaya—inviting guests to explore the depth and artistry of sake in a setting as refined as the spirit itself.
At the heart of Pabu-Chan is an immersive sake experience curated by Anthony Attanasio, Beverage Director for The MINA Group. The bar’s list highlights producers from Japan’s most storied breweries, including multi-generational makers like Tomita, Tsujizenbei, and Fukumitsuya, whose Kagatobi Super Dry is served warm in a large carafe—a nod to Edo-era tradition. Guests can enjoy guided sake flights, individual pours, or sake-forward cocktails, alongside Japanese beers and non-alcoholic options like tea and Ramune.
From 11 AM to 2 PM, Pabu-Chan offers Bento Boxes for takeout or patio dining—each featuring three Japanese milkbread sandwiches (egg salad, pork, lobster), three pressed sushi varieties (salmon, bluefin tuna, hamachi), and two tofu-skin inari with tuna poke and crab avocado. Perfectly balanced, beautifully presented, and crafted with the same precision as PABU’s cuisine.
Encased in a luminous glass “jewel box” in the heart of the Financial District, Pabu-Chan’s design blends modern elegance with subtle Japanese motifs. A glowing neon crane casts a soft light across warm wood interiors, while a delicate white lotus print wraps the exterior—creating a space that feels both vibrant and serene.
Beyond daily service, the space doubles as a private event venue for intimate tastings and curated experiences, offering a fresh dimension to PABU Izakaya’s celebrated hospitality.
The debut of Pabu-Chan follows a wave of new openings from The MINA Group, including Bourbon Steak San Francisco and The Eighth Rule in partnership with Stephen Curry. With over 30 restaurants nationwide, Chef Michael Mina continues to champion craftsmanship, community, and culinary innovation—anchoring San Francisco’s ongoing dining revival.
Pabu-Chan is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 AM–6 PM. Learn more about hosting Private Events at PABU.
